Joe Mendel of Yankton college, hailed as one of South Dakota sport’s best all around stars, closed his career in Huron this afternoon. The Onida high school product holds three conference track records and qualified in two dashes and the broad jump as his team sought a second straight title at Huron College field.

Robbers Carry Away Safe From Krumann Service Stores
Bandits entered the Krumann Service Stores at Fifth Street Southwest and Dakota Avenue South and stole a small safe containing cash estimated over 400 dollars. The safe, later recovered west of the city, had its doors chiseled and was found with 141 cents near West Park. Police noted the window was smashed and believed at least two thieves were involved.

Canadians Injured In Car Overturn East Of Huron
Mr and Mrs Frank Kellicut of Kramer Alberta were injured when their car overturned at the end of the pavement six miles east of Huron. Mrs Kellicut 60 suffered a severe left ankle injury and chest cuts while Mr Kellicut 60 had head and chest injuries. X rays showed no broken bones and both may stay in hospital four to five days.

Hero Brigadier is Laid To Rest
Funeral services were held today at the American Pro-cathedral for Brigadier General Robert H. Dunlap of the United States Marine Corps who died near Tours last Tuesday while trying to rescue a peasant woman in a landslide at her care home. General John J. Pershing attended and called his death a hero's death. Bishop Hugh Latimer Burleson officiated with Dean Frederick W. Beekman assisting. The body will be shipped to America for burial.
