Six alleged kidnapers and bank robbers captured in East St. Louis last night faced custody disputes as Lincoln Nebraska authorities claimed them as suspects in a $2 800 000 bank robbery. The group linked to the Cuckoo and Shelton gangs and Fred Burke faced federal state and local probes.

Hand County awards jail contract to Majerus and others

Hand County commissioners awarded contracts for a new $10,000 county jail. Majerus Construction of Waterman will handle masonry, G B Swanson of Mitchell bids plumbing, and Dewey Fritzell of Miller handles electrical work. Construction to start immediately. the jail will be west of the courthouse and the old building razed after completion.

De Smet seniors stage class play at State theater

De Smet high school seniors presented their annual class play After you I'm next to a full house despite threatening weather. The production was among the standout events on the 1931 graduation program and raised 580 in proceeds. Jamies Thomas, a convicted bank robber who escaped earlier, was found hiding in the county treasurer's office after a statewide manhunt.

Wessington Gold Star Mother Heads to France for Son

Gold Star mother Mrs. Helen Radcliffe of Wessington travels to France on Mother's Day to visit her son Clifton D. Radcliffe's grave in the Meuse Argonne. She will meet other Gold Star mothers in New York and sail May 13 aboard the American line, returning around July 18. Clifton died in 1918 in the signal corps. Bankers Converge for Group Meet in Huron

More than 150 bankers from eight central South Dakota counties are slated for the South Dakota Bankers association Group 5 session in Huron. Speakers include J. W. Parmley I. A. Church il and A Kopperud with registrations from Twin Cities Aberdeen Sioux Falls and Sioux City. The evening starts at Hotel Marvin Hughitt at 5 pm with a 6 30 pm banquet in Elka hall and a welcome by Patton of the Huron Chamber of Commerce.

Sioux Falls Wins State Music Meet in South Dakota

Sioux Falls high school captured the state music championship with 64 points, Arlington 39, Yankton 31 as over 850 students competed. Winners included Sioux Falls in Class A band, Parks Township in Class B band, Wakonda in Class B orchestra, Brookings in Class A orchestra, and prizes were given for the violin contest won by Maurice Dobbins of Aberdeen. The Sioux Falls band earned a spot in the national band contest at Tulsa May 21 to 23.

In Aberdeen a federal case over larceny ended with a jury verdict today for Melvin Burns of Peever who allegedly removed a government building from the Sisseton Indian reservation. Wagner Leads At Yankton Forensic Meet In 29th Annual Event

Wagner and Geddes high schools dominated the Yankton college invitation forensics meet held Friday. Wagner won the silver loving cup for best one act presentation. Bravery Of Wife And Daughters May Save Farmer's Life

Aberdeen May 3 The 64 year old Potter county farmer George Schmidt near Tolstoy suffered five fractured ribs and a broken collar bone as a bull charged him. His wife Cecelia 19 and daughter Mary rushed to help divert the bull and carry him to safety though the bull tossed them from a fence. Cecelia escaped unharmed and the others were not seriously injured. Schmidt remains unable to be moved to hospital with fear of internal injuries.
