Egg Fertility Tests Improve Hatchery Efficiency
BROOKINGS May 5 Special Poultrymen gain ability to count chicks before hatching using fertile egg detection after incubation with blue or daylight bulbs. A 100 watt blue bulb yields best results, though practice is needed to identify fertile eggs. Fertile eggs show enlarged germinal discs. infertile eggs heated 14 hours are only slightly impaired. Method may boost incubator capacity about 1 percent. commercial acceptance pending.
