Price Decline in Farm Prices Signals Weaker Farmers
Brookings reports February saw record low farm price levels with only a few commodities still near pre war values. The price paid for inputs also fell, as the Bureau notes lower purchasing power and weaker domestic demand amid mild weather and surplus supplies. The Wheat, oats, flax and barley indices show steep declines while chickens, potatoes, cattle and lambs linger above prewar levels. A separate note from Watertown records the formation of the County Potato Improvement Association with Verne Belk as president and E A Redlin as vice president.
