Declamatory Meet Entrants From Nine Central South Dakota Schools

Twenty three speakers from nine Central South Dakota high schools will compete in the district declamatory contest at the Miller Presbyterian church this Saturday. Winners of the interclass meet from Huron High School Mary Starring Brownell Sedam and Robert Wagner will advance, with Starring in dramatic division and Wagner in oratorical. Sedam will read The Forgotten Witness in humorous or five minute piece Mast the Basketball Game. Other contestants span Cavour Ree Heights St Lawrence Wessington Yale and more across dramatic and humorous divisions. Three judges drawn from St Lawrence Miller and Huron will decide.

Mount Rushmore Work to Reopen Around April

AP dispatch reports that work will resume on the Mount Rushmore National Memorial near Keystone around April 20. John A. Boland, Rushmore National Commission member, announced the plan after a Chicago meeting. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum is expected to return to the Black Hills at that time and start work again. The commission plans their annual November meeting at the monument.

Famous German Leader Passes

Berlin reports the death of Dr Hermann Mueller a former German chancellor and influential postwar figure. He died at 10:45 p m after a liver thrombosis and pneumonia at age 14. He first led in 1920 and again from 1928 to 1930 guiding the Young Plan evacuations and policy. He was a journalist by profession and a leader in the Social Democratic party.
