Dust Bowl Curbs Aims with 25 Cents Per Acre Plan
In South Dakota the Agricultural Conservation program offers 25 cents per acre to restore denuded “go back” land along a vast midwest strip from Canada to Mexico. County leader J M Fisher says eligible land must have been cultivated since 1930, be designated for reversion to natural state, and be owned or leased with permission. The strategy targets the dust storms blamed on grassland loss and erosion, a long urged policy by farmers and ranchers.
