Pierre March 14 Sixty persons attended an army engineers hearing where the Missouri River was shown as a potential source of hydro electric power and a means to develop manganese deposits vital to national defense. South Dakota interests urged surveys into mineral production and possible dam sites near Biz Maddy. Governor Bushfield noted eight dam sites found long ago and emphasized undeveloped river areas adjacent to manganese and coal deposits.
