Bennett County Rancher projects $14,000 profit in two years

Fred Weimer of Bennett County operates a 3000 acre Western South Dakota ranch with 640 acres owned and 3,000 acres under lease. He sold 151 steers for 670 at Armour Stock Yards, predicting a $14,000 two year profit despite prior losses in wheat farming. He plans to add 400 calves, 160 acres of cane and 140 of corn, feeding with corn, ensilage, barley and cotton seed cake. He employs about 15 workers and favors South Dakota cattle farming over Colorado prospects.

Town votes down curfew over old residents noise

ROCHESTER New Hampshire city council rejected petitions from women groups to sound the fire siren at 5 pm nightly to urge children home. Officials say the siren was discontinued three years ago after complaints from elderly residents who found the noise disturbing.

Republicans on the March Dinner Speakers Named

Washington dispatch reports new Republican governors and U S senators set to speak at the first of a series of Republican on the March congressional dinners. Mundt says Governor Harlan Bushfield of South Dakota will speak and Governor Raymond E Baldwin of Connecticut is invited. Scheduled speakers include Senator Gurney of South Dakota and Senator Danaher of Connecticut. Four dinners planned with speakers mainly newly elected senators and governors.

Jones Elected to Lead South Dakota Society at Capital

Roland Jones of Gettysburg a legislative ative of the National Retail Dav es Association is elected president of the South Dakota state society. He succeeds W W Howes of Huron as first assistant postmaster general. New officers include Dick Clark of Huron as first vice president Gladys Nichols of Rapid City as second vice president Vera Menken of Lead as secretary and Carl Walker of Pierre as treasurer.

Service Tonight At Episcopal Church

Lenten service of Grace at the Episcopal Church will be held this evening at 7:45. The class will cover Early Origins of Worship and addresses from The Book of Common Prayer. Special music led by Mrs. Howard Shober with parish choir. Public invited.
