Coalition girds self for voting on tariff battles
A Senate coalition of Democrats and Republican independents braces for final votes in the six month tariff struggle. After yesterday’s move to raise Cuban sugar to two cents a pound, they anticipate further roll calls on lumber, bricks, hides, leather and shoes, and other duties. Leaders expect to beat back oil and lumber tariff challenges, while reconsideration of sugar remains unlikely to alter the decisive margin.
