Ice Gorge Floods Seven Miles Damaging Vermillion Lands
An ice gorge on the Missouri River south of Vermillion flooded about seven miles of South Dakota lowlands. Land across the river in Nebraska seemed less affected. The gorge near the Vermillion river mouth sent rescue boats to reach isolated hilltop families as farm lands and homes suffered likely thousands of dollars in damage. The Vermillion River ran free of ice and the flood extended to the Airline bridge.
