Early hatching yields best results for poultry
South Dakota poultry expert J. Weisner of the state college extension service says early hatched chicks are more profitable. Early hatchers produce higher egg yields, with October and November layers averaging 161 eggs in year one versus 96 for February-March hatchers. He recommends hatch dates by breed and keeping chicks of similar ages together to prevent stunting and feeding disruption.
