Fight Expected At Legion Meet In Aberdeen
The 1938 South Dakota American Legion Convention in Aberdeen July 10 to 11 faces a heated floor battle over moving department headquarters from Watertown to Pierre and a large field of candidates to succeed Walter H. Burka of Pierre. Several cities contend to host the 1939 conclave, with Pierre Deadwood Rapid City and Watertown among applicants, while two Black Hills districts show strong parade strength. A proposed rule would require any candidate for commander to file a nominating petition with department headquarters 30 days before the convention.
