Richard Moechaldt of Aberdeen was elected state master councilor at the DeMolay conclave. Officers named for the coming year include John Stearns, Floyd Gillis, Tommy Young, Wendell Parlee, Bull Foster, Bob McCaughey, John Lynch, Wallace Babbitt, Barting Sanborn, Jack Sieurens, Perry Bergo, Charles Burke, Ken Burns, Ralph Fern, Joe Beckley, and Dyce Thurston. The convention also named Yankton as the 1939 city for the next gathering.

Governor Elmer A. Benson was renominated over Hjalmar Petersen on the Farmer Labor ticket as returns from 3276 of 8739 precincts showed Benson with a 16 280 lead. Benson led in Minneapolis St Paul and Duluth while Petersen drew support from Republican and independent voters.
Minneapolis dispatch reports Hjalmer Petersen, defeated Farmer-Labor candidate, plans to seek impounding of ballots in St. Louis County precincts where Governor Elmer Benson held a solid lead. Benson’s margin widened to 13,14 as 3,945 of 3,729 precincts reported. Petersen criticized the result as not right despite Benson leading 23,94 to 10,587 in St. Louis County.
County returns show Harold Stassen leading the Republican ticket with 113,103 votes, George Leach 51,052, and Martin Nelson 66,413. On the Democratic side Thomas Gallagher tops a six-man field with 19,5?9, Fred Schilplin 17,563, Victor Anderson 8,908, Michael Murray 15,981, and Charles Letect 4,018. turnout shifts reduce combined Democratic and Republican totals amid party realignment.
Jencks, a 17 year old Huron youth, faces arraignment in juvenile court on assault with intent to kill charges. City and county officials report the alleged attack on Earl Best, Rural Credits field man, in Hendricks County last Saturday night near downtown. Best was found injured after being struck as he looked into a storefront window. Jencks was held by authorities after an afternoon arrest at his northwest Huron home. Representing the defense was William Issentiuth. Harold W. Markey appeared for the state.
Joe Louis weighed 198 1 2 pounds for his scheduled heavyweight title bout with Max Schmeling at Yankee Stadium. Despite a mid afternoon shower promoter Mike Jacobs announced the fight would proceed barring worsening weather.
Huron relatives say no definite information reached today about Miss Valetia Conway listed among the missing in the Milwaukee Railroad wreck near Miles City Montana. Brothers Merri D Conway Austin and Russell left for the scene after word that several bodies were recovered but none identified as their sister. She worked for the Union Pacific in Otaha and earlier for the Chicago and North Western in Huron.

Patton and Crabb faced off in the annual school election with Patton winning a three year term by 463 to 222 votes. Crabb carried the second ward while Patton led in five wards, including a large margin in the sixth ward. Dr. R A Buchanan was re elected unopposed for the remaining term. The board plans an organization meeting in July to canvass yesterday’s results.
Incumbents were returned to the Sioux Falls board of education after Tuesday’s election. Russell M. Johnson won the teachers post over Dr. L J Pankow 608 votes to his nearest rival, with Fred Woehlert third. Fred Whitfield captured the treasurer post with 922 votes, while J R Edginton trailed. Mrs Fannie B Douthit was reelected unopposed for a five year term on the board.
