Evans and McLain to marry in June at Indianapolis

Bride Diana Evans and Frank McLain plan a June 24 wedding in Indianapolis. A noon departure to Canton then Columbus follows a bridal luncheon with gifts table revealed at 4 30 pm. Out of town guests include Mrs Hart of Groton Mrs Evans of Mitchell and Miss Schmidt of Chicago.

Mrs Van Arsdale Family Trip Ends in Minneapolis Visit

A three weeks California trip included stops in Los Angeles and San Francisco with a visit to the Golden Gate Exposition. Mrs Elen Van Arsdale and her daughters Natalie and Jean, of Huron, along with Mrs Van Arsdale’s mother and sister, Mrs John Douglas and Mrs Glenn Whitney of Glendale, Calif., departed this morning for Minneapolis for a brief visit. Mrs Douglas and Mrs Whitney had arrived last Friday to visit relatives.

Chinatown Fire Kills Eight As Mayor LaGuardia Opens Alarm

New York reports the Chinatown blaze on Dover Street killed at least eight people and injured four firefighters. Mayor LaGuardia joined the responding unit as engines battled a rapid, deadly fire through two crowded tenements, prompting a drastic warning that Chinatown must go.

$40 000 Limit Is Put On WPA Jobs

The Works Progress Administration suspended new projects above 40000 dollars as the House limit in the relief bill and Harrington ordered state administrators not to start any project without presidential sanction before June 14. The action aims to avert Senate acceptance of House restrictions. Harrington may revoke if the limit is removed. The relief bill sits with a Senate appropriations subcommittee.

One Man Killed By Southwest Tornadoes

A trio of tornadoes struck west Texas and New Mexico causing eight injuries and extensive damage. W. J. Jackson died in his demolished Lubbock farm home. his wife was critically injured. Shallowater reported leveled houses and ten inches of rain. Lingo, New Mexico also suffered property damage. Nearby flash floods killed a man near Colorado City and Snyder, Texas, leaving 250 homeless.

Baby Shot By Father As Sacrifice Dies

A 19 month old girl died in a hospital after being shot by her father Clair Young 35 a miner and part time evangelist. State Patrolman J C Conway said Young would be charged with murder and that he claimed the shooting was a sacrifice to go to Heaven in the eyes of the Lord.

Beadle County Commission Holds Special Session

Beadle County commissioners met at the courthouse in a special session to discuss county sponsored WPA projects and handle routine business. Beers licenses expiring July 1 were slated for action in the afternoon. There is neither water nor air on the moon.

School Officers To Gather Here In Beadle County

Beadle County school officers will meet at 7 p m Monday in the Beadle County senior high school auditorium Huron. County superintendent Eva Davis says the session will cover annual reports with Deputy State Superintendent George Titus and State Superintendent J P Hines expected. WPA engineer Robert Koupal will outline school repair and rebuilding under WPA while Miss Daisy Keene health nurse will give an afternoon health talk.

Final Campfire Of Girl Scout Camp Tomorrow Evening

Final campfire program for Day Camp Girl Scouts invited by parents tomorrow at 8 p.m. in front of the Beadle County building. Camp activities today mirrored last week with unit tasks handicraft singing and dancing. Pageant rehearsal for the campfire and amateur hour preceded noon dinner as the outdoor cookery plan ends with breakfast and dinner cooked outside tomorrow.

Camp lunch served by committee and girls at camp

Morning camp report notes out-of-door fires prepared a lunch of corn chowder with fruit and sandwiches provided by the girls. Thirty-five scouts were present. Girls coming tomorrow are asked to bring their dimes, sandwiches, and dishes.
