TRENTON N J June 22 Ellis H Parker former Burlington County detective chief and his son Ellis H Parker Jr surrendered today to begin federal prison terms for conspiring to kidnap Paul H Wendel a former Trenton attorney whose confession linked to the Lindbergh baby case was later repudiated Their appeals were rejected and Hauptmann's execution followed the postponement caused by Wendel's confession.
Spring ended with thundershowers bringing a trace of moisture and cooler air. Summer arrived at 1:40 this morning as cool, partly cloudy conditions persisted, with a forecast of a fair night and warmer Friday from the state weather bureau. State rainfall ranged from trace to about one-third inch in Sioux Falls, Mitchell, and nearby towns, with additional measurements across South Dakota.

President Roosevelt outlined a 3.86 billion plan to boost employment via self liquidating projects and low cost housing. The program would disburse about 870 million in federal loans this year starting July 1, with remaining funds supporting six project types over one to seven years. It includes rail, bridges, hospitals, rural electrification, farm purchases, and foreign trade loans, funded through several agencies.
In Albuquerque on June 22 a glider pilot Capt Peter Riedel of the German embassy staff in Washington flew 300 miles over marked Arizona and western New Mexico lava beds and deserts. He landed 13 miles west of Magdalena New Mexico claiming an unofficial American glider record at 17600 feet on a thermal barograph. He plans another eastward takeoff for a transcontinental trip as weather permits. The desert climate aided the flight, the captain stated. The flight marked the first nonstop glider trip over the continental divide.
INDIANAPOLIS June 22 Dr Francis E Townsend opened the fourth national Townsend Plan convention amid charges of revolt within the leadership. Townsend pledged to resign only when a true superior is found as delegates cheered. Senator Downey planned the keynote due to Nye's family bereavement. Gov Townsend urged finding true friends and telling workers farmers and business people about the plan's adequacy.
