Plant Lice Damaging South Dakota Gardens Says Expert
Brookings reports from A L Ford extension entomologist at South Dakota State College warn plant lice threaten box elder trees buckthorns snow balls and many other plants across the region. He identifies the lice by greenish color and clustering on tender parts and notes surface sprays fail since the insects feed inside. The recommended treatment is blackleaf 404 black tobacco product used at three teaspoons per gallon with soft water and a drop of laundry soap for better spread. Thorough spraying is essential and should not be done just before rain.
