In Kingsbury County near Spirit Lake a nearly complete skeleton was unearthed by Everett Shanks while finishing a windmill on the Ben Poppen farm. The find supports local lore that Spirit Lake mounds hold early Indian graves and may trace to Sioux tribes camped and traded routes through the area since the 1870s.

Pearl A. Bathke former supervisor at the South Dakota School for the Deaf filed a $2,000 damages suit in Sioux Falls against Arthur S. Myelebust and four police officers alleging unlawful arrest and warrantless search. Bathke was held in county jail for over five hours after being arrested July 25. Police blotter notes a squad car was sent to the school at 11 a.m. last Thursday.

Victim of Burns Dies in Madison Hospital
Arthur Mallwitz, 56, of Madison, died in a local hospital Monday night from burns suffered earlier when gasoline fumes ignited after he threw a switch. His clothes caught fire and a nearby resident covered him with a blanket to extinguish the flames.

Rapid City report details the death of Miss Mary Jonas 20 after she fell from a car driven by Lloyd Welch 41 traveling about 40 mph south of Tilford Meade County.
