Beadle County Farm Restores Soil After Dust Storms and Fire
In Beadle County, drought and dust storms left land barren but 1935 demonstrations by Soil Conservation Service on W. J. Stevenson’s farm showed wind erosion control. Methods included lsting, cane and sudan grass cover, strip farming, tree shelterbelts, and a planned crop rotation to rebuild soil and protect neighbors.

Soil And Water Conservation Efforts Expand In Beadle County
In Beadle County southwest, soil and water conservation work grows popular. Since 1939 a farmer joined Camp SCS-4 in Huron and now ten neighbors cooperate using wind erosion control, controlled grazing, water spreading devices, and dam and dugout conservation. At least ten more show interest, aiming for about twenty cooperators by spring 1940 as Sand Creek supplies water by dams and dugouts to reclaim previously lost run.
