Surplus Beef Outlook Amid Tin Can Increase
ANN STEVICK reports Washington says War Production Board will boost tin allocations to meat canners in January to store surplus meat for future use as fresh meat supplies rise next spring. War Food Administration tallies the amount to can. if output rises, tinned meat values may drop while fresh meat points rise. Tin is the limit on canning. points quotas can be increased as needed. Removing pork from rationing is not under consideration by OPAs meat rationers, as leftover points could disrupt butter and oleomargarine supplies.

Russian advance may crack Nazi lines in new offensives
Mackenzie discusses how Russians could concentrate forces despite Nazi counterattacks. He argues luck might aid a Nazi breakthrough, but German reserves could back up spearheads to exploit openings. Over time attrition and withdrawals would ease pressure, enabling a major Soviet breakthrough and a shift to a new sector near the Vitebsk-Polotsk railroad, despite slowdowns.
