Farmers Week Planned at State College February 4 to 10

Brookings time period for State College Farmers Week announced by Dean C Larsen. Program includes statewide farmers debate finals on cooperative marketing vs balanced production, Eminent Farmers banquet with Governor Bulow, Little International show, and a purebred livestock sale. Event aims to educate and entertain farmers and wives with out of state speakers invited.

Lake Kampeska outlet improvement planned at Wa ter town

Plans by the state game and fish department aim to strengthen the Lake Kampeska outlet dam with heavy sheet steel piling. Bid reads for piling to support the ends of the dike and act as an ice breaker reducing flood dam damage. Project director O H Johnson notes bids will lower material costs and prevent water cutting beneath the dam.

Sharpe Takes Action Against Sioux Falls Over Gas Tax

Attorney General M. Q. Sharpe filed a complaint in Minnehaha County Court seeking 1065.56 dollars, plus penalty and interest, for gasoline tax alleged due from the city of Sioux Falls. The state claims 317 444 gallons were received and used by city departments from July 1 1927 to December 31 1928, with gas purchased outside the state.

Oldest Man in Northwest Thomas Grant Dies at 105

Thomas Grant, who died in Sioux City at 105 years old, was believed the oldest man in the northwest. The Hand county resident, a native of Ireland, had a funeral in Belview Miller on Wednesday. His death certificate lists his age as 105 years, one month, and 23 days. His daughter sought the birth date from the Irish parish.

Four 4-H Banners Awarded at Junior Short Course

Brookings announces four green and white banners to be awarded at the Junior Short Course at State College December 27 to 31. Counties compete for banners in largest attendance best musical talent best club stunt and full attendance. Last year Brown County won two banners. Bath and Lincoln also had wins.

Wellington Springs reports the death of George B. Miller former county commissioner from 1921 to 1928 in Cherokee Ba He is survived by his widow in Cherokee and a son and daughter in Oregon Funeral arrangements have not been announced here.

Bible Commentary Volume From 1676 Donated to Yankton College

A valuable book printed in 1676 was donated to Yankton College library by M. P. Ohiman Sr. The volume, bound in vellum, is a Latin biblical commentary by Sebastia Schmidt, Doctor of Sacred Theology, with notes on theological doctrines. The book, found by accident, had remained with Ohiman for fifteen years.

Blunt Plans Community Christmas Program

Blunt business men with the American Legion and Auxiliary plan a Community Christmas program on the day before Christmas on Main street. A tree will be placed on Main street and Santa Claus will appear at the end. Each child will receive a stocking of nuts and candy.

Mrs Hylland To Lead Fedora Rebekah Lodge 1930

Fedora special reports Bertha Hyland will head the Fedora Rebekah Lodge as noble grand for 1930. Officers elected include Ida Clarke as vice grand Bertha Jacobson as secretary and Minnie Aiken as treasurer. A Christmas party is planned for the next meeting. Also Fedora seniors receive their class rings featuring a diamond emblem and FL H OS initials with class numbers along the sides.

Potter County Baby Beef Club to Replace Lebanon Club

In Gettysburg on December 13, the Lebanon baby beef club was renamed Potter County Baby Beef Club after a 25 percent rise in enrollments for 1930. Louis I Thompson county agent announced Herbert Anderson was named president Rhynold Dhatt vice president and Billy Baum secretary. Members have 25 calves on feed. Thorvald Jordeth and Thompson stressed good care and management. Will Hinckley, a Hereford breeder, supported member efforts and predicted growth in baby beef popularity in the northwest.

A.J. Hus, a farmer near Hare, reports 120 bushels of alfalfa seed from 50 acres on December 13. The yield nets nearly $2,300, reflecting strong crop output.
