Elmer Clark an 11 year old Redfield boy earns a gold medal from the Boy Scouts of America for rescuing Wayne Hagman from drowning in Cottonwood lake near Redfield on July 4. The action, taken with Hagman unable to swim, ended with Clark subduing the danger and bringing Hagman to shore. This marks the first heroism medal awarded in the Central South Dakota council and possibly the state. Clark is an Eagle Scout from Troop No. 8 and a Redfield High School student.
