Albertson Urges Budget Increase for Medical School at U SD
Dr. G R B Albertson dean of the University of South Dakota School of Medicine told KUSD listeners that at least five dollars should be added to the medical school budget to solidify its foundation for continued and rising success. He cited recommendations from an impartial committee of the South Dakota State Medical Association for more facilities and staff, including new faculty in anatomy and pathology and bacteriology, better library funds, and a general 15 percent budget increase. He argued that expanding courses and staff is essential to keep pace with peer schools and satisfy agencies setting medical education standards. In a separate KUSD talk, E S Sparks urged wiser state funding for higher education and a targeted $31,000 upgrade for USD’s business school including a $15,000 business research bureau.
