Captain Wolfgang Von Gronau and three German aviators set off from New York toward Buffalo and Chicago for the weekend air races. The giant Whale floatplane departed from Marth Beach airport at 6 22 a m and followed the East River to the Hudson. Medal Winning Display Heads to State Fair
From Seville to Huron the U S Children's Bureau display that won a Spanish gold medal and the king and queen's commendation will tour a state fair starting Sept 3. The exhibit, docked at the navy yard yesterday, will be sent west today. Mrs Alice M Alexencer secretary of the South Dakota Child Welfare commission arranged the show in Washington and it will travel to many states centered on the theme the child shall be first with models of juvenile court play area dependent child and education.

LONDON Aug 2 Nearly two score deaths have occurred in Great Britain during this heat wave that has scorched the British Isles and Europe since early in the week. By midafternoon six more names were added to the 29 deaths previously recorded. hundreds more treated for prostration. A man died by own action in London, blamed on the heat, and a trainer killed by enraged bears in Hastings. Temperatures rose from 33 degrees Fahrenheit to 68 by noon and 68 by 2 pm.

Landlady Drops Bite Charge In Chicago Case

Redfield Marks 50th Jubilee With Pageant Crown
Redfield hosted a large tribute marking its golden jubilee with an eight act historical pageant ending in Dorothy Summerside crowned Miss Redfield. About 8,000 spectators watched in the city park amphitheater as six to seven hundred costumed actors performed. Miss Summerside’s attendants hailed from nearby towns, and the event featured the Redfield band and a Cheyenne war dance. Earlier activities included pioneer slides, drills by the Huron Legion auxiliary drum corps, and a Spink county historical society session. The day closed with a Redfield baseball victory over Stratford 4-3 and further performances by the Frankfort band and Huron musicians.

Hunt for man who strangled girl in South Bend
South Bend police hunted a man suspected of abducting and killing eight year old Marveline Appel after she vanished from her mother's home. Deputies said she was found in an alley, bound with wire and with a gash to the head, dead about an hour and a half. Investigators asked towns across northern Indiana to aid in the search.
