Feed Shortage Seen Imminent in South Dakota Corn Crops
Brookings Aug 27 Thousands of acres of corn in South Dakota are drying and firing due to drought, prompting extension agronomist R E Johnston of South Dakota State College to urge farmers with livestock to cut corn for silage or fodder now. He warns much of the corn will not yield marketable grain or fill out, even with rains, and suggests quick silage or fodder solutions and the possible construction of pit or trench silos. Directions are in Extension Circular 264 obtainable from the Extension Service at Brookings.
