Calcium chloride dust control on Huron roads for fair week
Twenty five tons of calcium chloride dust preventative arrived in Huron for use on roads into the city and at the State Fair grounds during Fair week. About four tons will treat the Fair Grounds and the rest will cover Federal Highway 14 in both directions. One mile of highway needs roughly seven tons to keep moisture from the air. The state highway department found calcium chloride too costly for general use but effective under heavy Fair traffic. The 25 tons cost nearly $1,000 including freight.
