LaGuardia Announces Milk Compromise Plan
New York August 22 UP Mayor LaGuardia announced a compromise formula to end the week old dairy farmers strike that halved New York City's milk supply. Archie Wright of the Dairy Farmers Union rejected a definite settlement, insisting no agreement exists. The plan sets 2.16 dollars per hundredweight for all milk until October 31 unless a higher rate is fixed under the federal state marketing agreement, replacing the prior 2.25 dollars for drinking milk and far lower rates for manufactured dairy products.
