4 H Exhibits Stand Out At Junior Fair

Unusually fine workmanship noted in needlecraft and poultry, lambs and pigs at the Junior Fair held today at the State Fair grounds. About 300 people attended with county leaders and 4 H club members present. Girls modeled outfits in a style revue and teams conducted demonstrations while boys took part in judging contests. A noon picnic for leaders and youths featured Kiwanis guests learning about 4 H activities. 204 exhibits included 200 birds in poultry, 35 swine and cattle judged, pony judging led by extension staff.

RAPID CITY Aug 24 CPI M L Wilson undersecretary of agriculture led a dusty weary cavalcade of national state and county agricultural leaders into Rapid City after an all day trip from Lemmon visiting soil conservation and water facilities projects They traveled in 32 cars with about 125 men from federal farm agencies the South Dakota State extension service and Canada to the Gulf of Mexico The trip aimed to show the plains from Canada to Mexico discuss on the ground agency activities and promote coordination Bennett Washington chief of the Soil Conservation Service noted progress since 1936 and praised agencies working close to the land and farmer involvement The report ends noting continued progress pages.

Pear Tree Bears Fruit In Huron County Display

The lone Beadle County pear tree bearing fruit was shown at The Evening Huronite by George A. Shephardson of Idaho Avenue SE. It marks the tree’s first fruiting this year and plans are to display pears of the Minnesota No. 1 variety at the State Fair from September 4 to 9. The seedling tree was planted about ten years ago at the Shephardson residence.
