70 000 Farming Units Vanish In Five Corn Belt States
A conservative estimate by P. P. Beck of Indianapolis to the congressional Interstate Migration Committee finds about 70 000 farming units have disappeared in Iowa Missouri Indiana and Ohio over five years. Mechanization land decline and farm losses drive displacement, with migrants joining relief programs or facing near starvation. Beck urges state and national action to retrain and convert displaced families to viable family farms, noting rehabilitating them costs far less than relief.
