South Dakota state fair opens September 14 with a grand program led by La Follies Parisse a musical revue from major productions. Four Hippodrome acts double daily, Jones Exposition Shows bring the largest carnival rides. horse and auto racing feature top purses as the fair runs five days.

Accident Victim Still In Hospital

Robert Quale an 11 year old Huron boy injured when his car was struck July 27 remained hospitalized today recovering from a fractured skull and a broken collar bone. He was unconscious for about a week but his skull fracture appeared to be improving and he was fully rational though his temperature rose briefly. Doctors feared a possible abscess on the collar bone as of this morning though his condition otherwise remained good.

Self Defense Is Plea Of Former Prosecutor

Former deputy district attorney and municipal judge candidate David Fi Clark faced cross examination to defend his self defense claim in the killings of Herbert F Spencer and Charles H Crawford. Special prosecutor W J Ford prepared to press questions as the court adjourned amid political intrigue.

Hawks Set New Speed Record From Chicago to Roosevelt Field

Captain Frank of the Hawks flew from Chicago to Roosevelt Field in 3 hours 49 minutes, departing at 1 16 p.m. and arriving at 6 05 p.m. The trip previously set at four hours four minutes on a Chicago to Roosevelt Field leg. He returned with an Indian headgear from Hot Springs, South Dakota, where he was named a Sioux tribal chieftain.

Paving West Of City Completed And Ongoing

West of the city a seven mile paving strip was finished by Jenison Paving of Rapid City after completing a 20 foot surface near the state fair grounds. A south stretch of one and a half miles awaits materials to begin. officials expect a decision within days. North Dakota progress on a 40 foot roadway from the Chicago and Northwestern tracks to Eighth Street continues, with completion possible by Sunday morning if rock supplies hold.

Four In Dell Rapids Family Injured In Crash Near Flandreau

Mr and Mrs John Jensen of Dell Rapids and two children are hospitalized in Flandreau after a car southbound collided with an eastbound vehicle three miles south of Flandreau. Jensen suffered a severe hand cut, Mrs Jensen was badly bruised, the 11 year old boy had a head cut, the 9 year old girl cut on hands and arms, and the 7 year old girl cut on the forehead.

Pierre Aug 14 The state auditors office issued 11 178 warrants totaling 2 765 4 44 during July deputy auditor E D Hale announced Gasoline tax refract warrants numbered 5 835 and a payment of 93 06250 Mr Hale announced that the balance by the general fund amounted to 558 385 53 and that the state had 1 000 000 outstanding in tax anticipation warrants

Dry Forces Show Bigger Prohibition Crackdown

Washington reports the July 11 federal dry army produced more and bigger cases than last July. Agents filed 6,623 cases, 5,003 defendants were held, 1,139 jail sentences totaling 452 years were imposed, and fines reached 221,155 dollars. Director Woodcock warned early conclusions are premature. jail terms rose while overall fines were not as large.

Docket Figures Compare Monthly Seizures And Guests At A Home

The report shows month end figures with 1 723 stills seized and 1 639 beer fermenters seized, alongside 395 619 gallons of beer and 9 411 gallons of liquor. Last year these figures were 2 59 and 696 351 gallons of beer and 123 504 gallons of liquor. Mrs. Lee Lawrence of Honolulu and sister Lara Love of Los Angeles are overnight guests of Dr. and Mrs. J C Shirley and plan to depart tomorrow.
