Decrease In Cattle On Feed Across Regions
Brookings August 2. The federal livestock report notes no change from last year in the number of cattle on feed in South Dakota as of August 1. Across the eleven-state composite, there is about a 1 percent drop in cattle on feed for market with predictions of further decreases. East of the Mississippi shows about 2 percent fewer cattle on feed. west of the river shows 2 percent more. Iowa and Nebraska see substantial increases. other states show decreases or little change. Weight reports indicate fewer cattle over 1100 pounds, more between 900 and 1100 pounds, and little change under 900. Feeder expectations for the last five months of 1930 anticipate a sharp drop in feeder purchases, linked to weak pastures and corn prospects, with demand likely shifting toward calves and yearlings at stockyards rather than direct buys.
