Seek To Enforce State Dog Laws
Pierre April 4 A drive to enforce laws for control of dogs harmful to nesting game birds was announced by H Johnson director of the state game and fish department. He said deputies would enforce the law prohibiting use running or training of bird dogs from April 1 to August 15 and that trail hounds and other dogs used in hunting fall under the ban. It is unlawful to use dogs to catch mink during this period. Violators face fines from 5 to 25 dollars. Owners are urged to restrain dogs or risk them being killed if not identified. Flax Seeding Time Advised By April Fifteenth
Brookings April 4 Seventeen years of South Dakota agronomy tests at Highmore Eureka and Cottonwood stations show flax should be sown by April 15 when fields are weed free to avoid yield losses. Early frosts may hurt some crops but benefits of timely planting outweigh risks. Seed bed should be firm and weed control essential, with 20 to 25 quarts per acre on cultivated land for maximum yields. Mixed cropping with wheat oats or barley proved less profitable in Brookings tests.
