Death on Steamship Deck Aboard America Mary

Nakada Toradza, a Japanese laborer bound for Yokohama, slipped from the wharf gangway and fell on a trunk corner on the America Mary, breaking his neck and dying shortly after. The chief officer warned dock passengers to wait for improvised steps, but Toradza rushed up with baggage and fell. Witnesses say no one else is at fault. the ship resumed voyage to the Orient.

The sailing time for San Francisco is not yet set, with likely departure late tonight or early morning.
