Molokai Settlement Run of Events at Hilo Facility

Reynolda from the Board of Health visited the Molokai Settlement aboard Mokoli at 2 a m to inspect conditions. Improvements under way include a finished bridge over Pushi gulch improving access between the settlement and a nearby dev during rain. Water shortages persist at Kalan pape while Ka lawao remains well supplied. Reynolds fears a $20 000 water supply appropriation may be annulled by annexation, and notes natives are unsettled about annexation but report better management and food since monthly health visits.

Heavy Timber Collapse Ends Narrowly as Men Survive

A timber framework at the O R and L Co depot area collapsed while workers including Jacinto Costa Keoni and Harry Wolters were atop the structure. Costa and Keoni escaped serious harm, while Wolters and another worker sustained bruises and a broken rib respectively. Authorities and Dr Day examined the men. the incident occurred around 1 pm.

Troop Strength in San Francisco Area July 17

The Chronicle notes nearly three decades of troops in San Francisco area by July 17. Expeditionary forces for the Philippines include regular cavalry at Presidio Barracks and Wyoming artillery at Camp Miller, with twelve ships already gone and 12,000 soldiers landed. Including foreign service, recruits, and volunteers, about 26,500 soldiers are camped around San Francisco Bay, with units from California Utah Nevada and New York among others. Rowland brothers ran the telephone at Hilo and have returned to Honolulu.

The United States cruiser New Orleans destroyed the Spanish gun boat Antonio Lopez after its captain ran ashore near San Juan, Porto Rico while being chased by two American auxiliary cruisers. The vessel carried provisions and war material as it attempted entry into San Juan.

Coroner's Inquest Rules Out Locomotive Accident Details

Coroner's Java La Look, known as Chinaman, died yesterday after his left leg was run over by a locomotive at Waikela. He had been taken to hospital Thursday. An inquest this morning returned a verdict of death by injury.
