From the Sura Timea dated June 27 details emerge of the Beottish Dales wreck on Vunta Vatou reef near Turtle Island. A lifeboat with 20 crew led by Captain McCarthy reached Suva after a leaky craft and scarce water. One ill crewman with consumption was hospitalized. rescue efforts continued as searchers pursued the other boat. The ship, 2000 tons, owned by Ross and Co of Liverpool, carried timber from Tacoma for Port Pirie and sank after leaving Tacoma April 28 with 27 aboard.

War at Sea Crew Return After Uncertain Landing

The crew, frightened by disorientation, landed safely with all in good health. They returned yesterday around 2 p.m., with the ship to be auctioned on June 20 along with its timber cargo. An official inquiry began at Bava, as part of the Union Company's steamer Taviuni incident.

Sailor Hookano Drowns After Jump From Kilanea Hou

On Thursday at Mahukona a native sailor named Hookano leapt from the steamer Kilanea Hou at about three in the morning. He surfaced briefly beside the vessel and then vanished, presumed to have drowned. Authorities think he may have suffered sudden insanity.

Shooting Scrap in Hilo Ends with Amputation

A shooting on Fort Street in Hilo left a Chinaman severely wounded and his leg amputated above the knee after Henry Jones, a carpenter, fired at a man but hit the victim.
