J T Waterhouse inspector of food proposes strict checks on fresh goods in establishments. He positions the store as a dealer in honest staff, selling good clean groceries at affordable prices. The stock includes teas coffees syrups honey jellies cross blackwell jams tapioca canned fish salt pork and cheese from new shipments.
Mertagao’s Notice of Intention to Foreclose and of Sale cites a mortgage by G B Elama to Fotem Pu Laa, dated May 24, 158%, with payment default. After three weeks from this date, the property may be advertised for sale and sold at public auction in James F Monzan’s auction room, Honolulu, on Wednesday, August 42, 158, at 12 noon. A fragmented property notice describes a parcel in Waikiki Oabe, titled under Royal Patent No 20s, detailing its ownership to Kanemuli and a claimed area of four units, with garbled document phrasing and uncertain boundaries.
Durand a Marseilles native hangs for thirteen days on a decorated gibbet at a concert hall while singers and humorists perform around him. The stunt draws enormous crowds, with Durand eating and drinking suspended, then descending amid cheers and a sale of the rope for cash.
The Hilo Hotel Company plans a large new hotel behind the current building with twelve cottages to accompany it. The two story L shaped edifice will house twenty four apartments and all necessary facilities. A front garden and band stand will serve weekly concerts. Completion expected by year end with removal of the old structure. Lieutenant Lasker on recruiting duty in San Francisco reports desertions aboard the Adams and other ships, causing a short handed crew.
