From Washington to day comes word that Austin Jackson received a temporary postmaster appointment at Reno. A permanent posting is delayed while the Civil Services Commission rates the examination. Jackson, a Nevada native born in Austin, has held state offices and worked in mining and newspapers, and is a founder of A. Carlisle & Co. of Nevada.

Death of former Eurekan resident Aguayo in Berkeley

Reno greeting: Alex Aguayo, a Reno resident for nearly forty years, died in Berkeley California Monday after moving from Bisbee Arizona for health. He was about sixty five and his family was with him at death. He earlier lived in Kureks in the 1880s. In a separate Elko incident Tommy Mateus and two children escaped injury after a Ford was dragged by a Southern Pacific engine. one child suffered a minor eye cut from glass. Also, a note states ninety five percent of US business is transacted by check.

Possible Sodium Industry for Eureka County in Nevada

A new sodium sulphate deposit was found in Diamond Valley near Eureka County Nevada last summer. Ponds host crystal clear sulphate with minimal impurities, offering an estimated 160 006 tons of potential ore, enough to run a 50 ton mill about eight years, with possible expansion. Exploration by jumper drills shows solid masses and irregular cakes, average composition of water crystallization 30 percent and sodium sulphate 60 percent, 0.5 percent sodium chloride, 9.5 percent insoluble. Commercial viability hinges on tonnage, processing, transport, and marketability for wood pulp, glass, sodium carbonate, and caustic soda. San Francisco interests are pursuing market studies to secure demand.
