Toiyabe Forest Revenue And Expenditures 1918 Report
The Toiyabe Forest fiscal year ending June 30 1918 net receipts totaled 1349 45. Of this 12478 27 came from grazing fees 1098 42 from timber sales and 9272 76 from special privileges. Twenty five percent of receipts from National Forests in the state revert to counties for roads and schools while 10 percent funds roads and trails built by the Forest Service. An additional 10 percent of timber and forage value is available for roads and trails on or partly on National Forests. Total administration and improvements cost 18692 52 with salaries 8144 17 and forest improvements 5648 35. Average monthly payroll was 670 00 and much of it and many miscellaneous expenses were spent in Lander Eureka and Nye counties. Four defendants plead guilty to espionage act charges in Los Angeles
Prince Hopkins, George H Greenfield, Floyd Harden, and Carl Broneer admitted aiding circulation of a book titled The Ethics of Murder and other publications deemed seditious. Hopkins received 25000 dollars on the first count and 1000 dollars on the others. Greenfield and Harden were fined 5000 dollars on the first count and 1 dollar on remaining counts. Broneer paid 600 dollars on the first count and 1 dollar on other counts. They stated they circulated the material without pro German intent. The report notes prior indictment by a Federal grand jury months earlier.

Wealthy Nevada rancher accused of sedition
Carson Appeal reports H. A. Hoffman owner of 1200 acres in Nye County near Manse and several ranches seized by the Government. He is jailed in Washoe County custody after seditious remarks about Uncle Sam. Deputy Knight returned with Hoffman. 16 barrels of non stamped wine found in Hoffman's cellar. Hoffman, lacking naturalization papers, is treated as an alien enemy.
