Proposal for Eureka Uncle Sam mine mill boosts high grade ore

Frank T. Torpey of the Eureka-Uncle Sam Consolidated Mining Co reports recent drilling at the Uncle Sam mine reveals high grade milling ore on a Hamburg lode cross fissure. Tests show values around 20 dollars per ton in gold and silver with plans for a 50 ton daily reduction plant by June 1, 1922 and new tunnels and power drills.

Eureka Mining News Drift Resumes Near Jackson Fault

The crosscut north of the shaft intersected the Jackson fault at 50 feet and drifting to the north adjacent to the fault has been resumed. High grade on the 400 level south was followed below the level. Shipping to the smoke will resume next week. Bullwhacker crew cleaned debris and resumed drifting and escutting near the Dorphyry limestone contact.

Rail line reports three carloads of ore from the Cyanido mine on Adams Hill and two cars of high grade John Marino ore. Nine cars of aperas shipped by the Richmond Eureka Mining Company.

Commissioner Proceedings Report October meeting

The Board of County Commissioners met October 5 with Commissioners Reid and Johnson, the Clerk, and District Attorney present. Auditors verified bank balances. officers' reports filed. Auditor's quarterly report received. W J Hooper given 30 days to obtain additional $2500 bond. Department of Highways asked for miles maintained. the county reports 600 miles of roads, including 66 miles of Lincoln Highway and 35 miles of Overland Trail.

Whitmore Buys Humboldt Garage in Elko

Elko Free Press reports John B. Whitmore has purchased the Humboldt Garage on Commercial Street from Berger and Cleland and taken possession. A Nevada native raised in Palisade, Whitmore moved to Elko two years ago after leaving the aerial mail service where he served twenty seven months as a mechanic. He will run a general repair business specializing in parts for old model cars.

Ely Times reports deputy superintendent George Whiteley says all district schools have secured or can obtain capable teachers. He notes past shortages eased by higher salaries, crediting active correspondence and recruitment efforts. The improvement should raise school standards and yield long term savings.

Telephone Line Extension to Eureka Reported

Hugh Thomas of White Pine Telephone Co returned from an inspection of the Hamilton line to Coyle's ranch and said the line is in good condition to Hamilton. Work to extend to Eureka is under way and will replace the long inactive section from Coyle ranch to Eureka, with service to Ely via Hamilton expected in a few weeks.

State Board orders changes to Eureka tax roll 1921

State Board of Equalization orders adjustments in the 1921 Eureka County tax roll. The Masonic and Odd Fellows Hall association assessment increased by 900 dollars. A 8900 foot narrow gauge track between Eureka and Ruby Hill is assessed at 750 dollars to an unknown owner.

New Irrigation Wells For Diamond Valley

Frank T. Torpay and partners plan drilling on about 25 000 acres in Diamond Valley under the Pittman Act. If initial wells by Eureka Land & Lion Stock Co. yield water at reasonable depth, ten or more wells will follow at other sites. A deeper well may be bored if initial tests fail to provide profitable pumping. A third cargo of 6 inch casing arrived from San Francisco. The venture links to Eureka Uncle Sam Mining Co. and aims to attract ranchers, improve Eureka County, and invite railway interest into the valley.

CATTLE INDUSTRY THREATENED

Washington reports a serious cattle shortage looming within a year unless stock raisers halt the flood of immature cattle to slaughterhouses. Eugene Mayer Jr of the War Finance Corporation has urged bankers to extend advances to prevent a general collapse and urged action after a tour of cattle country in the near and middle west.

The Public Service Commission of Nevada schedules a conference and hearing to consider reduced rates for transporting ore from mining districts to Nevada California and Utah smelters. Heavy Fire Destroys Upper Floor of Carson School

Carson City suffered a Sunday night blaze that destroyed the building's upper portion while the lower floor was saved after a long fight by firefighters. The fire, likely from wiring or a chemical lab, caused about $50,000 in damage, with $24,000 insured and paid quickly by Nevada Fire Insurance Co.
