Martyr Mined Hero Artemus Johnson Sacrifices Life
Artemus W. Johnson, 30, of Eureka, died at Kingman near the Gold Road mine after selflessly trying to rescue fellow worker Coin from a 440-volt line. Johnson’s body acted as conductor on the wet drift floor, and despite warnings, he perished while aiding Cain. Cain survived with severe burns. The funeral at Kingman cited Rev. Deming’s tribute and community mourning, with family members flying in from Las Vegas to arrange burial.
