W L Kline a respected Goldfield businessman was shot in the head during a nighttime attempt to rob the amalgam room atReduction Works in Goldfield on November 6. Deputy sheriffs hidden in the room opened fire, Kline died next day, Ralph S Gipple confessed implicating two other men. Gipple claims Jones the night watchman helped lure them, a charge Sheriff Togalls disputed. Gipple says he and Kline planned the theft to net about 2000 or 3000 dollars from amalgam. Kline had moved from Bellingham Wash to Goldfield, worked for Lord the jeweler, then ran his own jewelry and drug business. Brother from Bellingham Bay expected. Kline’s office closed until his arrival. Mrs Kline and two children cared for by neighbors.
