Gould Director Says New Road Will Be Built
A San Francisco Call dispatch from New York dated July 4 reports George J. Gould confirms a straight railroad line from Salt Lake to the Pacific Coast. Trust deeds and mortgages are filed in Utah Nevada and California while surveys are nearly complete. States from New York to California woo bonuses and lands to attract the line built by the Western Pacific Railway connecting with the Moffat Denver group. The route would shorten Salt Lake to San Francisco travel by about a day and aligns with the Denver Northwestern Pacific project.

Remarkable Runaway In Eureka Parade Route
Last Saturday forenoon Art Johnson A wdy Leavoord and Ed Whitmore drove into Eureka in a one mile cart decorated for the horrible parade on the Fourth. The dingling of the bell as their steed paced down Main street attracted the attention of everyone along the route. In front of Jack Pardy office they stampeded the four horses that were hitched to Andy Loucks back action wagon. The way was driven by Alfred Pedlar who was using a jerk line and was powerless to control the frightened animals. The heavy load of lumber prevented a runaway but the horses made two complete turns on Main street without upsetting the wagon before they were stopped by the wheelers falling. The front axle of the wagon was badly sprung but Mr Pedlar continued on to Hamilton without having to reload or make repairs which surprised everyone who witnessed the accident.
