Dead Easy Sheriff Seeks Escapee Coyle in Caliente

Joseph Coyle, indicted for embezzlement by the White Pine County Grand Jury, escaped from Sheriff Alex Baird at Caliente. Baird chased him toward Conway's ranch after Coyle hired a team to flee, but the suspect vanished near Jim Ryan's lower ranch. Coyle is well known and may blend into the mountains while Ely pursues.

Mrs Burke Roche a New York Newport society leader known for dogs and horses. she was once Miss Fannie Work, married James Burke Roche in 1880, a volatile union ending in divorce. James Roche, linked to smuggling, Indian fights, South American revolutions, and a Montana tombstone for a man believed killed in an Indian raid by his mother Lady Fermoy in 1879.

Mail Route to Reveille Bid Posted for Tonopah Line

The Post Office Department posts bids for a Tonopah to Reveille mail route in Nye County. The route will serve Bellehelen Eden and near Clifford, with departures from Tonopah on Wednesday and Saturday and from Reveille on Monday and Wednesday. Award set for next week.

Pistol Duel at Rhyolite Ends Two Lives in Nevada Saloon

A pistol duel in Bevis & Turpin's saloon at Rhyolite Nevada on December 14 left James Clayton and John J. Sullivan dead. Sullivan, a bartender, accused Clayton of short changing him. Clayton fired first then Sullivan shot back killing Clayton. A cook, Max Rosenburg, was wounded but will recover. Clayton had sold mining interests and the two men had harbored enmity for months. Sullivan, 28, from Butte Montana, leaves a wife in Rhyolite. Clayton, 38, leaves a wife in Creede or Colorado Springs.

Trunk Line Railroads Abolish Free Transportation

Announced from New York that all Trunk Line Association railroads will end free passes after January 1, 1906. The Pennsylvania, New York Central and Reading systems lead the move and report Western roads will follow suit.

Rising Generation of Redskins Learn White Dance in Indian Village

Grant Patterson built a dance hall near Eiko and opened it December 18. Shoshones crowded the hall wrapped in blankets as a white fiddler played. Patterson taught dancing to a group of young Shoshone men and women, ending amid festive activity. Co-operative Mining Proposed by Western Federation aims to raise 1 million dollars for union mining, with members contributing 10 dollars each, to provide jobs for workers displaced by the card system.
