Nevada likely to deny higher intrastate rate requests
A Carson dispatch reports the Nevada Public Service Commission may deny petitions by railroad companies for higher intrastate freight and passenger rates. If true, Nevada could become the first state to resist Interstate Commerce Commission rate increases, arguing the state’s statutes require full investigations before intrastate rate changes and that the commission is not bound by federal mandates. Railroads expect a denial and plan to file new tariffs with hearings on the full matter, with a decision due around August 26.
