Eugene Merchants Plan Train Service After Bridge Completion

Jobn P. Jones of the Southern Pacific toured Eugene seeking support for a proposed Eugene to Wendling and Natron passenger train scheme. He said the new Springfield bridge should be ready for trains within 15 days and noted the plan may be generous but could become a liberal service if demand justifies it.

Deer and bear hunt shared by Veatch party in Cottage Grove

The Veatch hunting party arrived Friday night with several deer and ten bears. Henry Veatch killed a deer with a rare single three point horn and a tiny mate. Bears were abundant on the grounds, while deer numbers were lower than in earlier visits. The Winchester outing party returned after a 15 day trip. Also noted are steel girder cars for new Coast Fork bridges and a freight mishap. Brown Lumber completed a siding length, nearing the two mile post on the O S E railroad.

Ax Billy Co Buys Marcola Store From Veteran Merchant

Cole, longtime Marcola merchant, sells his general store to J D Fields Robert Gano and Frank Trueman proprietors of the Ax Billy department store in this city. They will take charge October first, with one member to operate. Cole will focus on selling lots in Marcola townsite as new sawmills spur growth along the Southern Pacific line.

Postponed opening date for Eu gene public schools

At a school board meeting the Eu gene opening is moved from September 11 to a later date. County Superintendent Dillard schedules the county teachers institute for September 19 to 21 with teachers reporting September 17 to finalize openings. A revised teaching roster lists principals and staff for City Geary Central and Patterson schools, plus music and drawing teachers. Claussen is arrested for drinking and disorderly conduct, held overnight, and bail set at a stated amount.
