Springfield Hotel Change of Hands in Springfield

The Hotel Springfield will change hands September 16 with John Kestly leasing the building and furnishings for two years to Messrs. Thomson and Hart of Crabtree. They are respected hotel men and citizens. The corner room will house a cigar and confectionery shop, the front to be replaced with a glass storefront, ready in about 16 weeks. Also notes of local moves include Mrs. J. Anderson visiting family, Ed Billing heading to Portland, and Rev. Lamar’s departure to Pomona.

Death of Arthur Comegys at 32 in Eugene

Arthur Comegys died this afternoon at 1 4 o clock at his parents home in Eugene after a long illness. He was 32 and a native of Lane county. He leaves his parents a wife and several sisters. He was then the Southern Pacific agent at Salem. The funeral is set for Sunday at 2 p m in the Christian church with interment in the Masonic cemetery, Rev J S McCallum to conduct the services.

Conrad Widmer Dies. Early Oregon Pioneer and Builder

Conrad Widmer, father of George C. Widmer of Mugene and Joseph M. Margaret M. and Gertrude D. Wid mer of Seattle, died at his Eugene home Saturday August 2 at age 76 years 9 months and 2 days. Born November 2 1520 in Baldersweil Haden Germany he came to the United States in 1840 and lived in Ohio Indiana and Kentucky before moving toward the Pacific Coast by way of the Isthmus of Panama. He spent months in Marysville and Sacramento before settling in Eugene in 1867 where he remained, active in business until 1872 and later on his farm. He built the store now occupied by S H Friendly and the first story of the Pickett building in 1808. He married Elizabeth Ebler in Oregon City October 8 1561. Seven children were born to them, four surviving the era. Funeral services were held at the family residence Monday afternoon August 7 Rev H N Mount officiating with interment in the family lot at the LL O OF cemetery.
