CANDIDATES FOR CONGRESS IN OREGON DISTRICT ONE

The Portland Journal weighs probable nominees for the first district congressional seat. Harris of Eugene, former speaker, is seen as strongest if named, but may stay out due to an agreement with Hermann. Woodcock forms a law partnership with Harris, a move viewed as politically risky. If Harris is unavailable, W. S. Vawter of Medford is considered a strong alternative. The Journal notes Hermann’s cooling relations with the administration have shifted the race dynamics and rekindled ambition among several hopefuls.
