Prince Gulitzen governor general of the Caucasus survived a sudden assault as three assailants attacked his carriage in Tiflis on October 28. His guard Cassandra killed one attacker, mortally wounded another, and seriously wounded a third. The prince received minor wounds but was saved by his cap.
Four hundred drivers, mainly from Adams, United States, Southern American and Wells Fargo Express, quit work in St Louis in sympathy with Pacifi Express strikers. Officials say replacements are being secured and business will not be interfered with. Reports say other employees may strike.
Winnemucca Nev Oct 23 Jack Frost alias Egbert fugitive murderer of John G Saxton and Jack West Harney county deputy sheriffe was captured Monday at American Falls Idaho by Constable McCoy of Elko Nevada Frost will be taken back to Barns Or for trial and to pay with his life the penalty for his double crime In March 1901 he was sent to the penitentiary for a year from Lane county for larceny.

Washington October 24 The State Department has information from Ambassador Clayton in the City of Mexico that the report of the attempted assassination of President Diaz is without foundation.
Scranton Pa Oct 3 Operations were suspended at every colliery in this section this morning but will resume work November eighth about 6000 miners are idle.

J C Coggins pleaded guilty to entering and uttering three postal money orders and was sentenced to four years at hard labor at the federal penitentiary on McNeill Island. He was indicted for raising three orders issued in Palo Alto California from 60 cents to 1.00 each and passing them in Eugene and Portland.
