Harrison county elects Orville Dewese of Jackson township as superintendent of education at age twenty two. He holds a three year teaching license and graduates with high honors from State Normal in Terre Haute. Dewese’s father serves as township trustee, and the retiring Amzi Kanapel leaves to study medicine.
A reader from June 15 1911 expresses appreciation for The News calling it a splendid weekly paper. The letter notes a Brooklyn Tabernacle Sunday School Lesson quote from Hosea 14 about Jews and Christ’s future reign bringing blessings to all families.

Mrs Elizabeth Hughes died in Denver on Sunday June 11 and was laid to rest in Cedar cemetery after a M E church service. Abel Breeden and Craig Breeden attended the funeral in Milltown. Some locals traveled to Rockport and Denver for visits and work.
Mrs. C. O. Deuchars and daughter Mabel left for Louisville to make their home. Rev. Alexander preached here Sunday night. Mrs. Hollcroft remains ill. Floyd Everhart and wife from Freeport Michigan visited Rev. Hotaling. Add Parr returned from Louisville. Guests included Jaunita Seacat Frankie Froman Artie Sprinkle at Blanche Parks. Mrs. Cora Brooks improves. Mrs. Rice Hollcroft from Kentucky shopped on the streets last week.

Mrs. Alpheus Batman and children visit near Curby this week. James S. Hanger traveled to Marengo for trading Saturday. John Dillman is ill with measles. Kelley Battiah and wife with Mrs Alpheus Batman and children were guests of Thomas Kelley and family Sunday evening. Mrs. Charles Ross is ill with measles. John Hanger and wife visited Charles Ross family Sunday. John Vernon and daughter Pauline visited Gurby Sunday evening. Vernie Sarles attended church at Dillman Sunday night. H. K. Jenkins was at Marengo trading Wednesday. Miss Mae Schreiber visited Nellie Carver Sunday night. Elder Sam White held services at Shafer Ridge Saturday night and Sunday. C. E. Jones was at Marengo Friday Blue Bell.
