Louis Gunst, early homesteader east of town, filed to prove up before U.S. commissioner James KR Little. The piece urges advertising for Encampment valley lands and the 30,000 acre French Creek Project open to entry under homestead and Carey act filings.
A Saturday night surprise party for Pearl Bowers gathered at the post office and then her home. Friends played games until about 9 30 and shared nuts candy oranges apples cake and ice cream. Gertrude McKay and Zoe Wolford provided piano music. Attendees included Myrtle and Genevieve Rhoades Gladys Fisher Creta Woods Dorothy and Francis Bridges Helen and Catharine Hopka Gerdelia and Ruth Metcalf Irene Little Zoe Wolford Mary Irondale plus Mark Edick and wife who were visiting from the forest to the showing.
Due to city hall use, tomorrow nights school meeting is shifted to Friday November 5. All committees must report and decide on preliminary work for forming a High school district. Attend to express views. J P Sheahan of the Rawlins Republican spent Tuesday night in Encampment.
The Rev W H Haupt has fitted up the old saloon building next to the Bohn hotel as a free public reading room and now holds special evangelistic services nightly from 7 30 to 9 Every night attendees are invited to join in song prayer and questions from a box Then a short gospel sermon follows Haupt a former Kansas archdeacon is described as a lively off hand speaker and singer who will offer music each evening and asks attendance by all believers.
Last Saturday night at city hall the show drew a good crowd and a lively dance followed. Next Saturday night features A Million Hid one reel Superba comedy Rural Romeos one reel Luna comedy and On Firing Line three reel Guantier drama. All films are first class and should please a full house.
On Wednesday October 20 at high noon John Henry Brown and Leah Fursier were married at the bride’s brother A J Chidester’s home. Reverend William H Haupt officiated and the couple will reside on the Brown ranch recently purchased from Chidester. HK Walek attended I O O F lodge that night.
Mr Marquis will preach next Sunday night in a union service. Every afternoon at 4 30 school children are urged to attend a short service with parents and adults invited. There will be instruction after a service of song lasting a half hour in the reading room by Bohn hotel at 4 30 and 7 30 p m. You are invited.
French Creek notices show Harry Roper a French visitor on Monday. Mrs I M Sanger visiting French this week. Mrs Chas Sanger's mother died in Laramie last Friday around 3 oclock. Freeman Cook and LeRoy Jenkins drove a herd to Brush Creek Friday. W C Edwards and McMann of Saratoga took a hunting trip to French this week.
The Episcopal church ladies guild will hold a bake sale at Parkison's store on Saturday, November 6. Everything good to eat will be on sale.
Four hundred homesteader applicants have filed for about 85 000 of Goshen Hole's 150 000 acres at the U S land office in Cheyenne since September 26 near Torrington. Most lands are in Goshen county, with 60 000 to 65 000 acres still open. The rush began Monday and may take a week to ten days to finish. The office received 30 applications last Saturday.
Presbyterian church alters winter service hours with Sunday school moved to 2 PM from 3 30 PM and Christian Endeavor meeting now at 6 80 PM each Sunday evening followed by the preaching service at 7 30 PM.
Charles Sanger came back on Monday from Laramie after being summoned to attend the funeral of his wife’s mother, Mrs. Jook Brown, following last week’s call.
