Charter Oak mine to resume shipments by Ek H Parkison

Will Ship Ore Soon Ek H Parkison and eastern capitalists have secured an option on the Charter Oak mine. A crew was sent to start ore extraction for a shipment. Water conditions promised to allow full mining soon, signaling a return of activity in Encampment district and likely profits for the owners.

Eighty Nine Books Donated to Pottsville Free Reading Room

The Rev Wm H Haupt received from the Church Periodical Club Pottsville Pa a new set of books placed in the free reading room shelves. Titles include Dickens Captain King Hawthorne Thoreau and Ruskin among others. The room will stay open daily and reading is free with simple rules. K L Reynolds a prosperous Encampment valley rancher left two dollars to be applied on subscription.

Death of James H. Beatty at 79 in bed

James H. Beatty aged 79 was found dead Wednesday morning in the bed at his sister Mrs J R Bowers home from heart failure. He had been feeble and complained of chest pain Tuesday night. Funeral arrangements pending. Rev C W Clough preached an opening sermon at the Presbyterian church last Sunday night to a large congregation.

Eastern People Have Money Says Encoustpment Traveler

H Parkison of Encoustpment formerly of Cheyenne told the Wyoming Tribune in Cheyenne that people in the east seem wealthy after a Chicago trip. He noted widespread prosperity and predicted freer money this year, plus revived interest in the Grand Encampment mining district and possible major developments.

Correction on Burglarizing Boys Case and Noted Switches

The Record erred by claiming two guilty youths were released in the burglary case of E H Parkison. Justice Chidester states the case was suspended and the youths Willard Haines under James F E Anderson and Edward Tennant under his father must report monthly until disposition. Also Miss Francis Heaton becomes the night operator at the telephone office.

Quarantine Proclamation on Canine Rabies Import Rules

Governor Kendrick issues a 1916 order barring dogs and other canine animals from states with rabies risk unless accompanied by health attestations. The proclamation sets penalties, requires export/import documentation, and grants the state veterinarian authority. effective May 15, 1916 through April 1, 1918.

End of Lyceum Course At Encampment

Maron Olsen, the final number of the lyceum course, filled his engagement in Encampment last Thursday night. With the city hall under repair the Presbyterian church hosted the event, featuring readings from famous authors to a good crowd. Each program proved a good one and proved the value of the lyceum series to the community.

Englehart Reinstated as Mayor After Certifying Vote

City council completed a canvass of election returns on Monday reversing the mayoral vote to favor Englehart with 62 votes to Foster Kearns 1. Councilmen A. Sproat and D. Pf Crout kept their seats, certificates of election ordered, and Englehart qualified as mayor Monday afternoon. Henry Pantle and family drove in from the ranch Saturday.
